Slugger Miguel Cabrera is slowing down, but he still has two more years on his contract with the Detroit Tigers.

When that's over, he says he'd like to stay and help the team.

“Winning in Detroit. I think that is the one thing I lack, winning a title in Detroit," he said the other day during a Spanish-language call with Venezuelan reporters to discuss his 3,000th hit, MLive reports.

“I hope I can achieve (a title) in these two years that I have left or, if not, as an assistant, a coach, whatever. I would like to spend more time with this team that has such a bright future. I know that my career is going to end at some point, but I’d like to be involved with the team, a team that has given me a lot. I’d like to share with them if that is God’s will.” ....

Cabrera, who turned 39 this month, is due to be paid $32 million in 2022 and 2023, the final seasons of the massive extension he signed in 2014. After that, the Tigers could buy out his option years in 2024 and 2025 for $8 million.

For now, Cabrera says he's still having fun playing.
