Update, 7:30 a.m., Sunday: The cause of the fire on Friday that destroyed the Traffic Jam and Snug in Midtown Detroit remains under investigation, The Detroit News reports.
The owner, Detroit developer Scott Lowell, tells Crain's Detroit Business that he'll rebuild and reopen.
Traffic jam was established 1965. On Dec. 8, 1992, after a decade-long legal battle, it became the brew-pub in Michigan, the website says.
Detroit Free Press columnist M.L. Elrick wrote on the Facebook posting:
You have made a difference in so many lives, given so many people opportunities, and built so many friendships that I know you will continue to accomplish anything you set out to do. And we would love to help you make the next generation of dreams come true!
Update, 8:27 a.m. Friday: Sirens sounded in Midtown Detroit around 2 a.m. Friday as firefighters responded to a blaze at the Traffic Jam and Snug. The interior and roof of the Midtown restaurant reportedly were destroyed, according to WDIV and other media.
The cause was undetermined.
Owner Scott Lowell was on a humanitarian mission at the Poland-Ukraine border. "I'm trying to get back to Detroit," he tells The Detroit News.
"I've been watching it on the news and videos. I don't really have much to say.
"It just feels like a bad dream. I've watched it and I just feel helpless from here."
