Kelley Root, the exectutive editor of Crain's Detroit Business, announced Friday she's stepping down, effective Sept. 2.
Root came to Crain's in early 2020 after serving as managing editor of the Detroit News.

Root did not explain to staff or Deadline Detroit the reason for her departure.
Root filled a number of senior editor jobs after joining The Detroit News in 2004. She was named managing editor of the publication in 2019.
She earned a degree in journalism from Michigan State University in 1989 and was editor-in-chief of the school paper, The State News.
