Randy Wimbley, who was fixture on Fox 2 news for the past decade, is leaving the station to join the public affairs office of Detroit Metro Airport. His last day is Tuesday.

In an announcement on Facebook Friday, Wimbley writes:

This decision was difficult but will allow me to better serve my family. My role as a husband and father is my first calling and priority. And it is glorious.

To say that my departure is bittersweet is an understatement. My arrival in Detroit in 2013 was a full-circle moment. Not only was I back in my hometown, but I also returned to the station where I got my start in the news as an intern in 2005. I would work alongside Huel Perkins and Monica Gayle Fox 2, two legendary anchors I grew up watching as a kid. I sat in the same newsroom with iconic reporters and deeply admired anchors.

He goes on to say:

As for my next act, I'll join the Metro Airport team. I look forward to working closely with DTW CEO Chad Newton, COO June Lee, and Erica Donerson, VP of Communications and External Affairs, to bolster the Airport's communications efforts. Thank you for bringing me on.

Wimbley was born in Detroit and raised in Southfield. He graduated from Harrison High School in Farmington Hills.

He graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2007 and began working at WNEM TV5, the CBS affiliate which covered Saginaw, Flint and Bay City. In 2010, he went to WPTU ABC in Memphis, where he stayed until coming to Fox 2 in 2013.

After returning to work in Detroit, Wimbley wrote:

My first month here, I reported on the controversial 2013 Detroit Mayoral Primary race. It energized me to want to go out and find more stories that you, the viewer, want to hear. And working at the station whose motto is "Working for You," I know I am at the right place.I know that some people think that Detroit is a lost cause, but not me.

Below is a sample of his work.
