M.L. Elrick Calls Once Disgraced Ex-Gov Snyder a Winner in This Election Cycle

Gov. Rick Snyder was a rising star in the Republican Party until the Flint water crisis took hold. Then any talk of higher office vanished. His endorsement was also no longer coveted in a presidential race. 

But time apparently heals.

In his list of winner and losers in this election cycle, Detroit Free Press invesigative columnist M.L. Elrick lists Snyder as one of the winners, writing:

At the top is former Gov. Rick Snyder, whose tenure was marred by the Flint Water Crisis, criminal charges that were eventually dismissed, and a state and national GOP that labeled fiscally-conservative and socially-moderate Republicans like Snyder "RINOs" — "Republicans In Name Only" — and began hunting them to extinction.

After Democrats gained a majority in the Michigan House of Representatives for the first time in decades, Snyder led a successful campaign to raise money to support candidates who could regain a Republican majority in the House.

This past week, his efforts paid off, with Republicans reclaiming the majority in the House.
