A Wyandotte woman dove into the Detroit River Friday in Wyandotte to save an elderly woman's dog, but then got arrested for public intoxication, Fox 2 reports

"The elderly woman, when this happens, is frantic," Wayandotte Police Chief Archie Hamilton tells Fox 2's Jessica Dupnack. "That’s her baby. and she starts screaming. Well, this woman comes out of nowhere and jumps into the river to save the dog."

The woman floated on her back with the dog on her chest until firefighters arrived to assist.

Hamilton said officers simply wanted to get her name and drive the woman home. But she refused to give her name.

"They wanted to go ahead and give her a break, they wanted to just drive her home," he said, adding that she gave officers a hard time. They finally had no choice but to arrest her on public intoxication.
